About Dr. Nimmi Hutnik


Dr. Nimmi Hutnik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mental Health and Learning Disabilities in the School of Health and Social Care at London South Bank University and teaches cognitive behaviour therapy to post graduate students. She is also in private practice as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT). She is accredited as a Counselling Psychologist by the British Psychological Society (BPS), by the Health and Care Profession Council (HCPC) and by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is also accredited as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). She is appreciated for her depth of knowledge, compassion, and good-humoured warmth. She has presented over 50 workshops to more than 400 trainees and professionals in the UK. Her clear, organized and compelling presentations integrate theory, creativity, audience interaction and practical skills. 


Dr Hutnik was co-founder in 1978 of Aashiana, which is a residential therapeutic community helping people who suffer from depression and anxiety, including obsessive compulsive disorder, panic, phobias, social anxiety, health anxiety or hypochondria, post traumatic stress disorder, relationship difficulties, personality disorder and many other problems. Trained as Clinical Psychologist in New Delhi, Dr. Hutnik was one of the earliest therapists to use CBT in India beginning in 1995. She now practices as a cognitive behaviour therapist in the UK. She also has a background in Transactional Analysis.


She has treated many patients suffering from depression and anxiety. In addition to classic CBT techniques, the empahsis in her treatment is to look for hidden strengths and to facilitate people to develop resilience and to flourish in their lives.
